The large 31mm penny was a continuation in both size & denomination of the Great Britain penny (1860 - 1967) , but as a seperate 'Irish Free State' currency. The years of issue were 1928, 1931, 1933, 1935 & 1937
(Saorstat Eireann or Irish Free State) a 1938 exists but is ext Rare. From 1940 (Key Date mintage 320K) dates of issue were 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1946, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1952, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967 & 1968 * (shown)
